Transformation Through Code

Aloha my name is Marion Ano and I’m the owner and lead developer for Wahine Coder. I began my Transformation Through Code in 2010 when I discovered the world of coding through a colleague while working at NOAA. Since then, I have been passionately developing and teaching coding for nearly 10 years.
I have experience working remotely or in-person as well as an acumen for project management and product development.
In addition to my development work, I seek opportunities to close the gender gap in the technology industry as well as mentor women and underrepresented individuals in the technology sector.
When I'm not coding or teaching, I'm working on writing children field guides for Kilo Books Hawaiʻi.
me ke aloha pumehana,
Marion Ano
2020 Wahine Coder Interns
Hi, I’m Jess and I’m a graphic designer from O'ahu, Hawaii. In 2019, I graduated with my B.A.S in Creative Media from the University of Hawai'i, where I took courses in print and interface design, computer science and other digital mediums. Currently, I work with creative agencies and small businesses to produce websites and digital marketing campaigns. My interests include UX/UI design, front-end development and marketing. Outside of the tech world, I enjoy expressing my creative spirit through music and photography. Singing obnoxiously loud in the shower while pretending to be Christina Aguilera is perhaps my favorite (yet most annoying) hobby.
You can see some of my design work and photography at jessmanapul.com.
I have a very multi-skilled background. Starting from stage management to researching customer’s way of thinking and psychology. UX is my passion. What interests me most is to see a customer journey in which the customer leaves with a smile on their face. I mean this is how it should be, right?
Understanding different cultures and bringing various values together is what I believe will make this modern world a better place. My hobbies include learning languages (some of them are code haha) and imitating bird sounds.

My educational background is in Journalism and Nonprofit Management, and my professional background is in sales, customer service and people management. I had basically zero knowledge or experience of anything technology related until August 2020. I’ve always been interested in coding but never felt empowered to really dive deep into the learning process until Wahine Coder came into my life. I am currently working on becoming a Full Stack Web Developer and I invite you to follow my journey on Wahine Coder’s blog.
In my free time, I like to be outdoors — hiking in the mountains or playing in the ocean. When I’m not ravenously consuming everything there is to know about code, I also love playing music on my ukulele, painting with watercolors and biking through Kailua Town with my husband.
We’re here for you, so please don’t be shy about reaching out. Drop us a message through the website or find me on social media at @akelarenae.
